Publisher's summary
An unconventional woman and a man shrouded in mystery walk a tightrope of desire as they race against a killer to find a top secret invention before it’s too late.
Former trapeze artist Amalie Vaughn moved to Burning Cove to reinvent herself, but things are not going well. After spending her entire inheritance on a mansion with the intention of turning it into a bed-and-breakfast, she learns too late that the villa is said to be cursed. When the first guest, Dr. Norman Pickwell, is murdered by his robot invention during a sold-out demonstration, rumors circulate that the curse is real.
In the chaotic aftermath of the spectacle, Amalie watches as a stranger from the audience disappears behind the curtain. When Matthias Jones reappears, he is slipping a gun into a concealed holster. It looks like the gossip that is swirling around him is true - Matthias evidently does have connections to the criminal underworld.
Matthias is on the trail of a groundbreaking prototype cipher machine. He suspects that Pickwell stole the device and planned to sell it. But now Pickwell is dead and the machine has vanished. When Matthias’s investigation leads him to Amalie’s front door, the attraction between them is intense, but she knows it is also dangerous. Amalie and Matthias must decide if they can trust each other and the passion that binds them, because time is running out.

There was no passion to break her heart, no love to risk and lose. Marrying her boss, prominent businessman Cormick Grayson, was a very reasonable proposition for a woman who'd been hurt in love before. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement. At first. But something wasn't right. Gray's eyes told her there was more to this than a polite, passionless marriage. But Gray's cool, impersonal distance left Amber wondering about the man she'd married. Amber never imagined she'd be the one demanding more, yearning to feel things she vowed she would never risk again.

Live and Love Dangerously
Amalie Vaughn defied a murderer once. As a former trapeze artist, Amalie is used to taking chances. The inn she and her aunt open at Burning Cove seems like less of a risk that most she’s taken but it soon becomes her biggest risk of all.
A killer robot, a handsome stranger and a murderer’s accomplice all show up in Burning Cove, Amalie and Matthias Jones join forces to stop a traitor.
This romantic suspense has it all, intrigue, adventure, romance, death defying acts and best of all, a happy ending, for some at least.
I can’t tell you how much I love Amanda Quick. Read this story and fall in love, I did.

Entertaining series....
I enjoyed that Jayne has moved into another era with her tales and she keeps a thread of the same family trees woven through. She dangles enough plot twists to keep her endings interesting and her female leads are competent and resourceful without being unbelievable super women. Thanks Jayne :)

Good story that would have greatly benefited from a better editor (one armed with a thesaurus)
Another fun adventure from one of my go-to authors, but wow! Holy over-use of the word "evidently," Batman!
I suppose I didn't really notice when I was reading a print copy of the book, or at least I was able to skip over the annoyingly over-used vocabulary, but it really stood out in the audio format. It really pulled my focus from an otherwise good story.

ending took forever
I counted at least 5 lines that should have been book enders. Leave the snappy, coy, satisfying line until ALL of the plot lines have been wrapped up.
