Publisher's summary

What are you supposed to do when the whole world joins forces against you? Give up, find some hole to duck into, and beg for your life to be spared? But even despite how obvious the answer to that question might be, many an adult had been dashed on the rocks 12-year-old Tailyn Vlashich was supposed to climb. Ahead of him lay a secret laboratory belonging to the ancients; behind was a horde headed by his sworn enemy. But through it all, Tailyn had those who loved him, those who believed in him, and that support was enough to carry him to the ends of the Earth.

There was just one question left to answer: Who was the Absorber? And what did he want with Tailyn?

an ending and a beginning - there are other worlds than these

this book does a great job tying the alchemist series and the world if the changed series together while leaving room for a continuation of the lives of the main characters. If you don’t know that Mark Derwin started as a character running a high end drone for a party entertainer, you should go back and reread the world of the changed series paying great attention to the first dragon killed. Finish this book first if you wish but you will have to read it again on e you. complete the world of the changed series.

series started great but tapered off

I really enjoyed this series in the beginning. But by the last book the main character becomes superman in justice league. nobody could really do anything without him and everyone gets their butt kicked and screams for him and he comes out with some new op gear or spell and everyone fawns over him. his betrothed goes from being this badass young woman to literally getting yelled at by everybody for making a stupid mistake that I don't think she would have made in the first books and sent running with her tail between her legs. the mentors go from being wise and flawed but trying to having no real texture in the last book. I'd honestly say this last book would be suited for dnd main character horror stories on reddit. I'm honestly disappointed in the ending and it's sad because I really like this author but this series pulled a game of thrones style ending. what I'm most disappointed in is that Valia just gets shafted the entire time and gets no real character development. it becomes the Tailyn show and Valia just becomes a punching bag and the adults can't do anything for themselves anymore. oh and somehow in 5 books they are still 12.

it's like it's trying really hard to disappoint and frustrate the reader.

I like the magic and all that. But the characters suck. The mc does everything for them and they constantly dismiss and disrespect him. He flip flops between being an annoying 12 year old moron who does impossibly stupid things at the worst moments and an unstoppable genius of warfare who slaughters demigod tier beings over and over. Any time something is introduced as a killable or too dangerous he turns into an emotionless killing machine and figures out the only possible way to win. I can only say, "He's 12," so many times. I think I said that out loud at least 35 times while reading this series. There's no pay off for this story. It does set up really well. I got excited about a few things the books were hinting at only for it be a complete let down. I wish the writer didn't make the mc a child. It feels like that happened to create tension by making the mc stupid whenever convenient and to wring this tortured story for all of the tryhard edginess it can produce. Everything is cynical. Almost everyone is a scumbag. Nothing really goes according to plan. The mc becomes op and gets nerfed over and over. So frustrating.

Sadistic towards MC

It got twisted to the point that I was cheering for the mc to die so I could be finally done… wasted potential and lazy endings this guys books start out great then he gets bored or drunk and ends them like shit.

The Worst

The story ended because the author was tired of writing that was the worst cut off ever.
