Story
A mazy dribble through the recent history of European soccer, showing how shifting styles and influence have shaped the game. In the early 1990s, the Dutch footballing philosophy was worshiped across the continent. Then the baton passed to the Italians, who clearly boasted Europe's strongest league. But when France started winning everything at international level its national academy became the template for others, until suddenly, almost out of nowhere, Europe's most revered player and manager both hailed from Portugal.

Story
For more than a decade, New York University president John Sexton has used baseball to illustrate the elements of a spiritual life in a wildly popular course at NYU. Using great works of baseball literature as well as the actual game’s fantastic moments, its legendary characters, and its routine rituals - from the long-sought triumph of the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers to the heroic achievements of players like the saintly Christy Mathewson and the sinful Ty Cobb to the loving intimacy of a game of catch between a father and son - Sexton teaches that through the game we can touch the spiritual dimensions of life.

Bouton was called a Judas, a Benedict Arnold and a “social leper” for having violated the “sanctity of the clubhouse.” Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn tried to force Bouton to sign a statement saying the book wasn’t true. Ballplayers, most of whom hadn’t read it, denounced the book. It was even banned by a few libraries. Almost everyone else, however, loved Ball Four.

I'd listen again!
While I've always admired football, I never connected with a specific club until now. After listening to this, I can absolutely see myself pulling for Arsenal week to week. Well done and hats off to the narrator, who was very clear and smooth. The narrator's engaging delivery certainly played a role in bringing me into the Arsenal fandom!

A Fan is Born
JJ Gunner's audiobook on Arsenal's legacy and fervor is an absolute gem, especially for newcomers like myself to the world of football fandom. As someone stepping into their first full season supporting Arsenal, I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the captivating storytelling that not only delved into the team's history but also captured the essence of the passion and devotion surrounding this iconic club.
Gunner's narrative beautifully weaves together the emotional connection fans have with their beloved team. It was incredibly enlightening to understand the roots of the passion that drew in not just my brother but also my nephew, making it now a multigenerational journey!
What also truly elevated my experience was the exceptional narration by Marcus Wiley. His voice and beautiful UK accent added depth and emotion to the already compelling narrative, making this audiobook a delight to listen to.
This isn't just for Arsenal fans; it's for anyone who wants to comprehend the magic and allure behind a football club. Gunner's articulate storytelling and Wiley's engaging narration makes this a “must-listen”, and I wholeheartedly recommend it for newcomers such as myself, as it’s a captivating introduction to the world of Arsenal and the teams phenomenal football fandom!!

Truly amazing, a fantastic listen for anyone.
This was a fantastic telling of Arsenal history. Great for all listeners, a testament by the fact that my wife didn't mind us listening to it in the car. Probably because of the narrator's English accent.

Nice quick and easy listen
Overall: I really enjoyed the listen. Was able to finish the whole book whole waiting to board a plane.
Story: Exactly as the title would suggest. It's a short listen about Arsenal Football Club. A bit repetitive at times though I did learn a lot.
Performance: The Narrator, Wiley, seemed to be a perfect fit for the book. He was easy to listen to and made the repetitiveness forgivable.

Not just for Football fans
I'm not much of a sports person, but the history of Arsenal Football Club left me wanting more. I truly enjoyed the fun facts about how this club came to be and now I want to take a trip to England to experience this fandom first hand! It's definitely an easy listen for footballers and non-fans alike. The clear narration took me back in time. Hope there is more to come!

These Gunners got me!!
This is an amazing education into the background of Arsenal. Being a passive soccer fan, (I mean football…football!!) you don’t usually think about how clubs like these take the hearts of so many hardcore fans throughout the world, but learning how fans help create this team it won me over. Great narration telling a even greater story.
